Asian Winter Games' Flame handed over to Kazakh delegation in Al-Kuwait

ASTANA. January 12. KAZINFORM A ceremony of handing over the Asian Winter Games' Flame to the Kazakh delegation was held in Al-Kuwait where the headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia is located.

A day before the Flame was lightened by President of the Olympic Council of Asia Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and Kazakh Minister of Tourism and Sport Temirkhan Dosmukhanbetov.

Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah said that the VII Asian Winter Games would be held in Kazakhstan thanks to President N.Nazarbayev.

"Despite the world financial crisis all necessary conditions for holding the Games were created with the support of President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Kazakhstan was the fourth country following Japan, China and South Korea that was honored to hold the Games", Minister T.Dosmukhanbetov said.

After welcome speeches the President of the Olympic Council and the Kazakh Minister handed over the Torch of the VII Asian Winter Games to Kazakhstani figure skater Abzal Rakhimgaliyev. Sportsmen from China, Japan and South Korea - countries that held the Games were next to carry the Torch. Finally, the Torch was handed over to Kazakh cyclist from "Astana" team again.

The Olympic Torch will be delivered to Almaty today where the Torch relay starts. The relay is planned to be finished in Astana on January 30.
