Assailants stone, open fire on Fenerbahçe FC bus in Turkey's north-east
Winning the game 5-1, the Fenerbahçe team headed to Trabzon to take their flight back to İstanbul but their bus was attacked along the Sürmene-Araklı Highway, Kazinform has learnt from Today's Zaman .
Initial reports say the windshield of the bus was broken and the driver was injured. Fenerbahçe players reportedly suffered no injuries and were being taken to the airport with police cars. The motive of the attack is not clear but the enmity between the Fenerbahçe andTrabzonspor that first emerged with a match-fixing scandal is thought to be behind the incident. In July 2011, Fenerbahçe was implicated in the rigging scandal and Trabzonspor asked to be handed Fenerbahçe's domestic trophy. As Trabzonspor's efforts have thus far not yielded any positive results, the bad blood between the two clubs grew stronger and has spread on the pitch.
