Astana boasts 20, 000 births a year

ASTANA. KAZINFORM "Above 20,000 babies are born annually in Astana," Astana Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov told at today's annual meeting.

"Astana is a young capital. The average age of its residents is 30 years. 45-50 babies are born every day, above 20, 000 babies every year. 110,000 of preschool children are brought up in families, 95, 000 pupils attend Astana schools. Above 85,000 students receive education in Astana and 140,000 young people under 29 work in the capital," he added. "Consequently, the Astana youth aged 14-29 comprise 30% of the city population. As the forecast reads, Astana population will exceed 350,000 by 2020," he resumed.
