The mayor said that the city’s population grows on average by 50-60 thousand every year. Over the past three years, the figure has risen by 200 thousand, leading to a growing demand for utility services. The city is also experiencing increased rates of housing commissioning and water consumption.
The Kazakh capital faced the shortage of water of up to 20-25 thousand cubic meters of water per day in June.
According to the city’s mayor, there is no shortage of water in the city of Astana for at least several years ahead. This was achieved by the commissioning of an additional line of water pipeline from the Astana reservoir on June 10 allowing for an additional supply of 90 thousand cubic meters of water. Construction of the third pumping and filtering station with a capacity of 105 thousand cubic meters was also completed.
Adding up to the existing supply of drinking water, the city is completing the construction of a second additional line of water pipeline from the Astana reservoir as well as the design of the expansion of the Telman pumping station.
