Astana International Airport reveals 11% rise in passenger traffic in 2024

Astana International Airport has demonstrated steady growth and increased passenger traffic, according to the data the airport presented in honor of the Civil Aviation Day the country marks today - February 1, Kazinform News Agency reports.

In 2024, the airport served 8,315,108 passengers, an 11% increase compared to the previous year. Domestic flights increased by 9%, while international flights rose by 16%.

* Domestic flights – 5,668,234 passengers (+9%)

* International flights – 2,646,874 passengers (+16%)

The airport is actively working on increasing flight frequency and expanding its route network. Over the past year, flights to Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and CIS countries have been resumed and introduced. Flight frequencies to major global cities such as Abu Dhabi, Seoul, Tbilisi, Prague, and St. Petersburg have been increased, along with popular tourist destinations like Cam Ranh, Bodrum, and Phuket.

For the first time in 2024, new flights were launched to Dushanbe, Phu Quoc, Phuket, and Milan.

This growth enhances Kazakhstan’s transit capabilities, strengthening the airport's position as an international hub.

Cargo Transportation: New Records

Air logistics is becoming an increasingly important part of the airport's operations. Over the past year, 12,470,824 kg of cargo and mail were processed, representing a 39% increase compared to the previous year. International cargo transportation saw an impressive 78% growth, highlighting the airport’s growing role in global logistics chains.

Modern Infrastructure – New Opportunities

Astana’s airport has taken another step toward ensuring maximum flight safety. The latest evacuation equipment, meeting stringent international standards, was introduced. This technology is capable of handling all aircraft types, including the largest airliners such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 747-8.

Additionally, Astana International Airport became the first in the country to acquire one of the world’s most advanced airfield fire trucks—the Rosenbauer Panther 6x6. Manufactured by Rosenbauer International AG in Austria, it meets the highest safety standards. This unique vehicle can rapidly respond to emergencies and navigate challenging terrain.

The Future: New Standards of Quality

In January 2025, a new trust management agreement was signed between the authorities of Astana and Terminals Astana Airport Management (TAAM). Work is currently underway to finalize a long-term investment agreement between the investor and the Kazakhstani authorities.

Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan had launched the construction of three new airports in Zaisan, Katon-Karagai and Kendirli resort areas.
