Major landmarks and administrative buildings in Astana will go dark for one hour to support Earth Hour, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Over 30 landmarks from the Baiterek monument, the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, the Khazret Sultan Mosque to mayor’s office and residential complexes will switch off non-essential lights for 60 minutes from 20:30 to 21:30 pm to celebrate our planet.

The Earth Hour held under the aegis of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is supported by over 2 billion people from all corners of the world annually. This grassroots movement started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia.

It creates awareness on what each person can do to treat our planet and its resources responsibly.
