Astana school reduces its budget for payment for heating energy by more than 25%
The project is implemented jointly by UNDP and the Astana Akimat in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding pursuant to the Regional Comprehensive Plan for energy conservation in Astana. In 2009 the school was selected as a pilot facility. One of the criteria for the choice of the school was involvement of the local budget in reconstruction of the facility (previously at the expense of the city budget thermal performance of the building has been improved by replacing windows).UNDP carried out additional activities to thermal modernization of the building as a part of the demonstration project, the press service of the UNDP in Kazakhstan reports.
School-lyceum No 9 is the building that was built in 1961 with temperature regimes not complying with the sanitary standards that teachers and parents periodically complained of. Children felt uncomfortably at lessons, particularly at the physical education lessons because of increased humidity indicated at the gym. At the same time, increased heat loss of the buildings and the need literally to "dry" the gym led to large accounts for heating energy.
In 2010, energy audit of the building was conducted by the Czech Company TODERO at the expense of UNDP/GEF. The project was approved according to its results by which was aimed at upgrading the heat supply station and improving thermal performance of the enclosure.
Now the project is completed: hot water supply system in toilets is restored, exhaust system of the gym is installed, additional radiators are installed, energy-saving equipment with weather dependent automatics, which allows to save consumption of heating energy for heating and hot water supply.
When increasing thermal power shortage, energy prices, reducing budget expenditures for payment for heating energy the project has successfully reached its final goal. At the expense of the activities held the quality level of heat consumption of the budget building was increased, expenditures for payment for heating energy is expected to be reduced significantly, while maintaining comfort in the building.
