Astana to host CIS Oncologists Congress in September

ALMATY. August 6. KAZINFORM The VII Congress of CIS Oncologists and Radiologists is set to take place on September 5-7 in Astana.

The biennial forum is a major scientific event for the CIS oncologists because cancer is one of the most dreadful diseases causing too many deaths across the world. It takes more lives than malaria, AIDS and tuberculosis taken together totaling 8 million people a year.

The VII Congress of CIS Oncologists and Radiologists will bring together some 1 500 leading scientists and doctors who, in their turn, will present the cutting-edge research on what causes cancer and how to treat it. The participants are to discuss theoretical and practical problems of the disease. The forum will allow to strengthen the existing contacts between the CIS specialists and join efforts of the CIS countries in fight against cancer.

Dariga Nazarbayeva, Chairperson of Majilis Committee for Social and Cultural Development, Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, Secretary of State, Salidat Kairbekova, Healthcare Minister, Mikhail Davydov, President of the CIS Oncologists Association (Russia) and Franco Cavalli, UICC's President (Switzerland) are expected to open the forum.

The event will be held with the support of the Healthcare Ministry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kazakh National Research Scientific Institute of Oncology and Radiology and Kazakhstan's Community of Oncologists and Radiologists.
