Astana to host IV Asian Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics

ASTANA. October 14. KAZINFORM /Yevgeniy Novikov/ A press conference with participation of representatives of the international, Asian and Kazakhstan gymnastics federations devoted to the coming IV Asian championship in rhythmic gymnastics was held at the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sport.

The competition will be held on October 15-18 at the National tennis center in Astana.

28 sportswomen from 8 countries of the continent will fight for medals. Teams of Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will participate in the contests together with representatives from Kazakhstan.

Delivering opening speech President of the technical committee of the International Gymnastics Federation Maria Szyszkowska complimented the progress of the Kazakh national team.

"Kazakhstan has a very strong team that will be at the leading positions in the future. But it is necessary too build specialized complex for gymnastics in order to remain at the high level", she said.

Besides, M. Szyszkowska proposed the Kazakh sport authorities to nominate Astana as a candidate for holding of the world championship in 2013.

Secretary General of the Kazakh Federation Lyudmila Revina noted that competitions of such level are held in Kazakhstan for the first time and great responsibility rests on the organizers.
