Astana to host national wrestling championships Feb 1-5

On February 1-5, Astana will host the National Greco-Roman, Women's and Freestyle Wrestling Championships among adults, which will bring together athletes from 17 regions of the country and three cities – Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the municipal mayor’s office.

The event will let pick up the wrestlers for the Asian Qualifier Tournament in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul (Türkiye).

Azamat Dauletbekov, bronze medalist of the 2023 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships (Belgrade, Serbia), and Nursultan Turssunov, member of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team, will miss the event. They both secured 2024 Olympic Games berths and will begin their training.

The upcoming championships will be held at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Palace of Martial Arts.
