Atambayev becomes Kyrgyz Prime Minister

BISHKEK. December 18. KAZINFORM The Kyrgyz parliament has approved Almazbek Atambayev as the prime minister with 92 votes, the local media said; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The same number of deputies supported the new government structure, and 88 deputies voted for government members.

Atambayev said before the vote he would pay his first working visit to Russia.

"Russia will always be the main strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan," he said. "It was Russia that gave the biggest support to the republic on hard days. The assistance keeps coming. Priority relations with Russia are a part of our program, which has gained support of the coalition," he said.
