ATOM project was presented in New York
More than 700 activists, teachers and students took part in the Conference, the Kazakh MFA's press service reports.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations presented Project ATOM, an international initiative of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, which was widely supported by the participants. They learned about tragic history of nuclear tests in Kazakhstan, and the country's contribution to the process of nuclear disarmament and its consistent steps to strengthening non-proliferation regime and achieving a palpable progress in the area of global nuclear disarmament. One of the organizers of the event, University of New Jersey professor Ruth Nielsen noted that "project ATOM is firmly determined to end nuclear tests and contributes more efforts to spreading information about nuclear disarmament, global nuclear arsenals and politics of nuclear weapons." During the Conference the participants signed the online petition of the Project АТОМ appealing to the governments of the world to achieve brining into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Tests Ban Treaty and make a new important step towards the world free of nuclear weapons.
