Australia informs UN of new climate target

CANBERRA. May 6. KAZINFORM. The Australia federal government said on Wednesday that it had informed the United Nations (UN) of its revised greenhouse gas emissions target; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

"We are putting our 25 percent target on the table to try and drive progress in global negotiations," Climate Change Minister Penny Wong said in a statement, adding that Australia had formally submitted the revised target range to the UN. Wong has also reiterated that the government wanted the proposed emissions trading scheme pass through parliament soon, so Australia could move forward with a plan to achieve its carbon reduction targets; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
