ANA. November 18. KAZINFORM /Serik Sabekov/ - Kazakhstan's culture has had a big loss. Outstanding film and stage director Azerbaijan Mambetov died at the age of 78 due to heart failure.He is no longer with us, but his priceless works are immortal and will always be with the esteemers of art.

 
A.Mambetov was awarded the Hero of Nation title; he was the pelople's artist of the USSR, laureate of the State Premium of the USSR, laureate of the State Premium of the Kazakh SSR, was awarded the Otan order.

A.Mambetov was born on September 1st 1932 in Volgograd oblast, Palassovka village. In the War years his family moved to Alma-Ata. In 1952 after graduating from Alma-Ata Theatre School he joined stage direction at the GITIS named after Lunacharsky which he graduated in 1957. 

After graduation he was a film director at the Kazakh Academic Drama Theatre after M.Auezov, where in 1965 he was the senior film director.  In 1976 he was awarded the title of the people's hero of the USSR and state premiums of the USSR and Kazakh SSR.

Among the best-known productions were the plays "Wolf Cub under Cap", "Mother's Field", "Kozy Korpesh and Bayan Sulu", "Karagoz", "More than a Century Lasts a Day". His works as film director include «Wings of Song» (1966), «Blood and Sweat» (1978), «Messengers in Hurry» (1980), «Year like Life» (1965), «Strings of Centuries» (1970), «Abay» (1976).
