Azerbaijan team tops Asian franchise of World Series of Boxing, Kazakhstan is second

TBILISI. March 24. KAZINFORM The Baku Fires of Azerbaijan has won the Asian Franchise of the inaugural World Series of Boxing by scoring 10 wins against two losses in its 12 bouts in the team actions.

Second was Kazakhstan's Astana Arlans on nine wins against three losses, followed by the Beijing Dragons of China (four wins against eight losses) and Poseidons of the Republic of Korea (two wins against 10 losses).

A match of the team event of the World Series of Boxing consists of five bouts each with five three-minute rounds.

The Baku Fires has been drawn to fight the Paris United of France in a semifinal match while the Astana Arlans has been drawn to fight the Los Angeles Matadors of the United States in the other semifinals, both being slated for April, Kazinform writes referring to Xinhua.

A total of 12 clubs from as many cities are competing in the inaugural league of the 2010/2011 World Series of Boxing under the auspices of the International Boxing Association. These clubs are grouped into three franchises of Asia, Europe and Americas.

Both the team finals and the World Series of Boxing individual championships are scheduled to take place in May in Guizhou of China.

The World Series of Boxing will be an annual event which allows aspiring boxers to compete professionally without having to sacrifice their dreams of competing for their respective countries in the Olympic Games.
