Azerbaijan tightens rules of stay for Russians in a tit-for-tat move

The relevant decree has been signed by the country’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

Russians as well as persons with permanent residency in Russia, but without Russian citizenship, may stay within the territory of Azerbaijan visa-free for at least 90 days in one calendar year, reads the document released on the official website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.

The decree is set to take force starting from January 1, 2025.

Previously, residents of Russia could stay in Azerbaijan for up to 180 days in a year without a visa.

Earlier, Aykhan Hajizada, Director of the press service department of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, announced tit for tat measures against Russia’s recent move on stricter rules for foreigners staying on its territory.

It’ worth noting that starting from January 1, 2025, foreign nationals entering Russia could stay in the country temporarily to 90 days a year, except as provided by law.

Earlier it was reported that Kyrgyzstan is to introduce a visa-free policy for nationals of six nations.
