This regional organization unites Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

According to Secretary General Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the 33rd top level meeting will be held in the "critical" conditions for the region. Apparently, he meant worsening armed conflict in Syria, the political crisis in Egypt and other momentous events in the Middle East.

Zayani added that on Sunday foreign ministers of the Council will hold their consultations in order to form the final agenda of the summit.

Regional experts believe that, given the expanding instability in the region, the Gulf Cooperation Council is seeking for political integration within the "six" on the model of the European Union. However, there are some contradictions between individual members of the Council.
