Baikonur city investing KZT560mln in waste treatment

Kyzylorda region’s Baikonur city is to channel investment in household solid waste recycling and purchasing new equipment to manufacture cobblestone and cinder blocks, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to Serikbol Kaliakbarov, head of the investment project service at Zhassyl damu joint-stock company, the project is set to be located in the Baikonur landfill.

An investment project for sorting household solid waste and recycling construction waste in Toretam village, Karmakshinskiy district, Kyzylorda region, was approved during a meeting of the investment staff of the Kazakh ecology and natural resources ministry. The Industry Development Fund JSC already commenced the first phase of formation of documents and a forecast contract.

Once completed, the project will enable to process 65,000 tons of household solid waste per year and sort out construction waste, providing 36 people with jobs. The household solid waste landfill is set to occupy an area of 124.8 ha.

The project’s total cost is estimated at 560.2 million tenge, of which Zhasyl damu is expected to allocate 504.2 million tenge through the Industry Development Fund.

To note, Kazakhstan is set to provide 185 billion tenge in waste collection and processing.
