Bakiyev Family to be judged in Bishkek again

This time, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, his brother Zhanybek and sons Marat and Maksim are being accused of involvement in the attempted murder of a foreign businessman Sean Daly, the representative of Oxus Gold Pls. company.
According to the press service of the Kyrgyz Supreme Court at the end of 2005, Maxim Bakiyev conspired with his father Kurmanbek Bakiyev to obtain rights to develop Jerooy gold deposit and its further resale to third parties.
While the exploration license was owned by Oxus Gold Pls. company. At that time Kyrgyzstan's share in the company was 50 %.
The Kyrgyz republic has withdrawn the mining licence that Oxus held for the Jerooy gold deposit, saying the company had not fulfilled obligations to develop the mine. In recent weeks, the Kyrgyz government announced it was in talks to hand over the scheme to a previously unknown company called Global Gold, an Austrian business ultimately owned by two companies registered in the British Virgin Islands. Oxus has taken the issue to the courts in Kyrgyzstan. Mr Daley was a long-term resident of Kyrgyzstan, where he was heading talks with the Government on behalf of Oxus. He ran a marketing and legal services firm called EDI in Bishkek. As stated in the criminal case, Maxim Bakiyev entered into a criminal conspiracy with his brother Marat and his uncle Zhanybek to kill the foreigner. As a result, on July 7, 2006 the British businessman, who led negotiations for the mining group Oxus Gold in its high-profile dispute with the Kyrgyzstan government, was shot. Mr. Daley was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and had surgery. Fortunately, owing to timely medical care his life was rescued.
Trial for the case will be carried out on February 27, 2014.
Recall that all the members of the Bakiyev family have been convicted in absentia in Kyrgyzstan for other criminal cases and Zhanybek Bakiyev - to life imprisonment.
