Balkhash-Alakol Basin Council holds enlarged sitting

sp;TALDYKORGAN. November 20. KAZINFORM. /Sandugash Duissenova/ T he 9th enlarged session of the Balkhash-Alakol Basin Council devoted to the improvement of decision-making procedure on the basis of the integrated approach towards water resources management is taking place in Taldykorgan.

The sitting is held under the auspices of the OSCE Center in Astana.

As Chairman of the Balkhash-Alakol Basin Council Anara Tleulessova informed, the Central Asian states transit to introduction of the principles of sustainable development into strategic documents and state management practice. Integrated water management is one of the mechanisms of transition to sustainable development.

"Water resources of our country are limited. Little attention to the issues of water can lead to conflicts, growth of social tension. Thus water is one of the priorities for the local authorities", she noted.

She emphasized that the basin councils were created in the state to ensure integral water management.
