Chakthip Chaijinda, Bangkok Metropolitan Police chief, along with Vichai Sangprapai, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1, and 700 police officers at 5.30 a.m. Monday demolished 5-6 tents and several placards of the nationalist "yellow-shirt" protesters on Ratchadamneonnok road around the Government House in order to regain traffic lanes to ease congestion in the area.

The police took up the area on Ratchadamneonnok road from Makhawan-rangsan Bridge to Misakawan Intersection without confrontation with the protesters.

"It is indispensable for the police to clear the traffic lanes so that general public would be able to pass by; however, the officers were ordered to avoid demolishing tents at the center of the crowd. Some police will be deployed on the pavement," Vichai said.
