Bayern Munich boss Uli Hoeness gives appeal up
MUNICH, Germany, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The president of Bayern Munich Football Club Uli Hoeness gives appeal up following jail sentence, he announced here on Friday in a personal statement.
After discussions with his family, Hoeness has decided to accept the verdict, according to the statement, Xinhua reports.
In addition, Hoeness will put down his work as president of FC Bayern and chairman of FC Bayern Munich AG.
The 62-year-old president was sentenced on Thursday by the city's local court to 3 years and 6 months in jail for tax evasion. However, his prison sentence must not take effect immediately, because the judgment will only be finalized when the prosecutors give up appeal.
Hoeness had admitted to avoiding 27.2 million euros (37.9 million U.S. dollars) in taxes.
