Belarus' grain harvest exceeds 9 million tonnes
This year the country has planned to harvest more than 9 million tonnes of grain (it is almost 2 million tonnes more than last year). According to the data provided by the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the goal has been achieved. As of 15 August, the total harvest in the country totaled 9.015 million tonnes of grain, about 96.9% of the areas under crops. By 15 August 2013 the country cropped only 6.412,7 million tonnes of grain, BelTA reports.
Minsk Oblast is currently leading with 2.128 million tonnes of grain cut. About 1,4% of the area in the oblast is still to be harvested. Grodno Oblast has so far cropped 1.658 million tonnes. Brest, Mogilev and Gomel Oblasts have so far harvested 1.441, 1.364 and 1.292 million tonnes respectively. Vitebsk Oblast has cropped 1.116 million tonnes of grain. The oblast cut 87% of its areas under crops.
