Belarus, Kazakhstan to sign agreement on cooperation in defense industry
The sub-commission will discuss the ways of improving the regulatory framework of military-technical cooperation and, in particular, the preparation of the intergovernmental agreements on industrial and scientific-technical cooperation of enterprises and organizations of the defense industries, mutual protection of rights to the intellectual property used in the course of bilateral military-technical cooperation, BelTA learned from the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus.
The meeting will be attended by members of the Belarusian-Kazakhstan sub-commission, representatives of ministries and departments and organizations of the defense sector of Belarus and Kazakhstan's military-industrial complex.
The draft agreement on industrial and scientific-technical cooperation of enterprises and organizations of defense industries provides for the mutual supply of materials, semi-finished products, components, and other material resources required for production, repair and maintenance of military equipment in accordance with the agreed lists without licensing and quoting, and also the exemption of the goods from customs duties both in Belarus and Kazakhstan. "Optimizing the legislative support is one of the ways to make work more effectively in this area," said the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus, BelTA reports.
The committee noted that Belarus and Kazakhstan have "potential and mutual interest: from repair and upgrade of weapons, military and special-purpose equipment in the interests of the national armed forces to joint production of new models of military products, including in the interests of third countries." The countries are also interested in enhancing cooperation between the defense industries of the two countries, creating joint ventures, and bolstering scientific ties.
Today the most important areas of cooperation include maintenance and upgrade of aircraft, development of automated control systems for the armed forces and other security agencies. Work is underway on a number of new projects on air defense, maintenance and upgrade of air defense missile systems, armored vehicles, supply of educational and training technology, and creation of an aviation technical center in Kazakhstan.
The two countries will identify the priorities for further development of cooperation, elaborate promising projects of cooperation. There are also plans to consider the status of preparations for the international exhibition of armament and military equipment KADEX 2014 in Kazakhstan and MILEX 2014 in Belarus.
