Belarus to mark 15th anniversary of CIS peaceful nuclear energy commission

KAZINFORM Events timed to the 15th anniversary of the CIS commission on peaceful uses of nuclear energy will be held in Belarus on 4-6 December, BelTA learnt from chief of the international cooperation section of the Nuclear Energy Department of the Energy Ministry of Belarus Lilia Dulinets.

On 4 December the Energy Ministry of Belarus will host a session of the task force on the development of major principles of the CIS nuclear, radiation and radioecological policy in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy and a session of the expert group that supervises the implementation of the CIS framework cooperation agreement in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy for the period until 2020 "Cooperation Atom-CIS".

On 5 December the information center of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast, will host a conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the CIS commission on peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Taking part in the conference will be members of the commission, chiefs and experts of ministries and government agencies, scientists and businessmen from the CIS member states. The participants will review the 15 years of activities of the commission and discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the CIS member states in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. After that the participants of the conference will visit the construction site of the Belarusian NPP, BelTA reports.

On 6 December the experts will undertake a technical tour to Molodechno, Minsk Oblast, to visit a training center for Belarusian power engineering specialists.

The CIS commission on peaceful uses of nuclear energy was established upon the decision of the CIS Council of the Heads of Government as of 17 January 1997. The commission promotes collaboration in nuclear energy, develops a common policy in nuclear safety, drafts regulations and interstate cooperation agreements, contracts and other documents of the CIS member states. The commission consists of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine.
