Berlin marked Kazakh Independence Day

BERLIN. December 17. KAZINFORM A welcome reception on the occasion of the Independence Day of Kazakhstan was held in Berlin, Germany.

About one thousand guests including prominent public and political figures of Germany, the Bundestag and Landtag, senior officials from ministries and departments of science and culture, business, accredited diplomatic corps and representatives of the media, the Kazakh diaspora and students attended the event.

In his welcome address, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Germany Nurlan Onzhanov talked about the main stages in the development and progress of the state under the leadership of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Germany.

The Kazakh diplomat noted the high level of bilateral cooperation and intense dynamics of mutual visits at the highest levels. According to him, the Kazakh President's visit to Germany in February has given a new impetus to relations between the two countries and laid new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

In turn, former Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Germany Hans-Dietrich Genscher said that "for such a short period of time in the history Kazakhstan has made a great leap forward in statecraft and creation of favorable market conditions that contributed to the welfare of the population and promotion of the authority of Kazakhstan on the world stage."

According to him, traditional regular meetings and events indicate only constructive and confidential nature of the contacts that have been established between the two countries and their leaders.

Guests have expressed best wishes for continued prosperity and stability to the people of Kazakhstan and many others emphasizing the complex potential of political and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany.
