Biometric passports for CIS states discussed

MINSK. September 19. KAZINFORM Matters concerning the issuance of biometric passports were discussed at the 20th session of the Advisory council of heads of consular services of the ministries of foreign affairs of the CIS member states. The event took place in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 17-18 September, BelTA informed.

The session gathered representatives of Belarus, Azerbaijan (as an observer), Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and the CIS Executive Committee.

At the session the sides shared the experience of evacuating CIS citizens in emergencies and crisis situations. The need to further work together to protect rights and interests of CIS citizens in third countries was pointed out.

Participants of the session agreed to draw attention of the relevant authorities to the need to unconditionally fulfill the Minsk convention and the Chisinau convention on legal aid and legal relations in civil, family, and criminal cases.

Apart from that, participants of the meeting agreed with the Belarusian side's proposal to start sharing information about international treaties, which have been signed with third countries and regulate travels of citizens.
