Bird flu causes mass death of swans on Lake Karakol

Bird flu outbreak caused mass death of swans on Lake Karakol in Mangistau region, according to the local ecology department, Kazinform News Agency reports.

As Lada.kz informed, on December 21, 2023, the employees of the Ustyurt State Nature Reserve had confirmed the death of 30 species of mute swan on Lake Karakol.

The results of laboratory examination showed the dead swans were infected with bird flu.

The number of dead swans has already reached 227. 132 corpses of birds have been disposed and 95 more swans will be disposed on January 3 as per the procedure set by veterinary legislation.

Earlier it was reported that corpses of 30 dead swans had been found of the shore of Karakol Lake.
