Border services of Caspian littoral states to conduct joint exercises

BAKU. November 23. KAZINFORM The border services of all Caspian Sea littoral states (Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran) will conduct joint exercises, chief of the South Regional Border Department of the Russian Federal Security Service, Colonel-General Nikolay Lisinsky told journalists here on last Friday.

"We want to exceed the limits of (Russian-Azeri) bilateral format by involving Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran in the exercises," Lisinsky said after meeting with the Azerbaijani border services officials at the State Border Service.

According to Xinhua, he said discussions concerning the exercises are underway, though the sides have not reached total agreement on some of issues. "The heads of all five countries' border services will hold talks in Moscow in the near future."

According to the Russian General, "Border services of Azerbaijan and Russia cooperate closely in the fight against transnational crime, the sides inform each other about the situation on the border."
