Brazilian President Lula to get Indira Gandhi Peace Prize
NEW DELHI. November 19. KAZINFORM India Friday selected outgoing Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for its coveted Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2010, said an official communique; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
"Lula is being selected for the award by an international jury chaired by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh mainly for promoting strong ties among developing countries and for his contribution to the cause of India-Brazil partnership," an official comminique by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust said.
"Lula has championed the cause of the global south and has worked to strengthen bonds among the developing countries," said the communique; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
