Brussels reviews EU Strategy for Central Asia - Pierre Morel

BRUSSELS. March 17. KAZINFORM Currently, the EU is reviewing its strategy in Central Asia, EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel said in an interview with Kazakh journalists in Brussels, after the meeting of national coordinators of Central Asian countries on cooperation with the EU.

At this meeting, we discussed the revision of the EU Strategy for Central Asia, which was adopted five years ago. Despite the fact that this is not a joint document, but the European one, we listen to the suggestions and requests of the Central Asian countries, which we will try to include in the new strategy," he noted.

In addition, the EU Special Representative noted that the current EU strategy in the region has been implemented efficiently, but given the current realities it needs improvements. "So we're sharing ideas, listening to comments and proposals," Pierre Morel said.

"The EU and Central Asia: Strategy for a New Partnership" was adopted by the EU Council in June 2007. It is the result of the EU's consultations with the Central Asian countries. The overall objective of the document is the achievement of stability, security and prosperity in Central Asia through equal dialogue, transparency and results orientation, taking into account the regional aspects as well as general and specific needs of each country.
