Camera traps help to study snow leopards in E Kazakhstan
UST-KAMENOGORSK. KAZINFORM - Automatic photo and video cameras to track snow leopard have been installed on the territory of Katon-Karagay nature reserve.
Twenty two devices were obtained in the framework of the project under Snow Leopard Fund (SLF), said Oleg Loginov, director of the fund.
"With the help of camera traps we can identify each individual owing to woolfell spot pattern. Katon-Karagay State National Nature Reserve has held its first training seminar on traps' operation", said O.Loginov.
Aforetime experts defined the presence of snow leopards in the Altai with the help of paw prints and trace fossils. But the process has been simplified although at present it requires more funds and time, said the head of the fund.
