Cargo movement via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was up 65% to 2.1 million tons in six months of this year, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports citing the press service of the Kazakh Prime Minister.

The country passed the 2024/28 comprehensive maritime infrastructure development plan providing for establishment of a major maritime transport and logistics cluster at Aktau and Kuryk ports in a step to increase container capacity, promote cargo terminal and international transport logistics, as well as reduce administrative barriers.

The plan envisages dredging of the water area of Kuryk port, construction of a container hub at Aktau port. Most of the projects are set to be carried out at the expense of private investments, including as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. In fact, cargo movement via the Trans-Caspian International Transport route was up 65% to 2.1 million tons in six months of this year, said the press service.

In the first half of 2024, export-import traffic by road along international routes stood at 3.8 million tons, while transit transport 2.4 million tons.

The important event was the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement with China on international road transport, enabling Kazakhstani carriers to deliver cargo to industrial and port towns in China and transit through other countries, said the press service of the Kazakh Prime Minister.

This year, the country piloted transit road transportation from China to Europe through Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea on route China-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia via Kuryk and Baku seaports.
