Caspian Sea littoral states to adopt convention on crisis management, emergency issues

Representatives of Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will sign the convention March 3.

Head of Iran's Crisis Management Organization Hossein Qadami who will represent Iran in the signing ceremony, said that emergency issues of the Caspian Sea are such that none of the countries can handle them alone and they need regional cooperation in the field, IRNA reports.

He further noted, "We intend to set up a center for rapid alert system envisaged by the convention to be inked March 3."

As to the agreed cooperation among the signatory states, Qadami said that preventive measures, transport facilities, relief aid, equipment for rescue operations, organizing public education to control the crisis, holding conferences and workshops as well as joint operations are among the reasons behind signing the convention.

Nurturing and upgrading experts by the educational institutes, exchange of instructors, students and experts are among the other pivots of the convention, he said.
