Central Asian Regional Forum "Organic EXPO 2024" starts in Bishkek
The three-day Central Asian Regional Forum "Organic EXPO 2024" has started in Bishkek today. It promises to be a key event for the development of organic agriculture in the region, Kabar reports.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan reported that the forum brought together more than 200 experts and 50 speakers from more than 10 countries, including representatives of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Russia, Germany and other countries.
The organizers and participants of the forum are confident that organic agriculture will become an important link in building a sustainable and green economy in Central Asia.
The event was initiated by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic together with the Secretariat of the Special Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions and the Jogorku Kenesh.
The forum was supported by numerous international organizations, including the OSCE, FAO, the UN World Food Program, the German Agency for Technical Cooperation, the EU, the Government of the Netherlands and the Aga Khan Foundation.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev greeted the forum participants in a video address and expressed gratitude to the international partners, emphasizing the importance of the relay format of the event.
He noted that the Organic EXPO forum should become an annual tradition that strengthens cooperation between the countries of the region.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov noted that the government has decided to triple the area of land allocated for organic farming, bringing it to 200,000 hectares. "This is an important step aimed at developing organic agriculture and supporting farmers who strive for environmentally friendly production," he added.
