Challenging math task featured International Zhautykov Olympiad: Academician A.Dzhumadildayev

ALMATY. January 21. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ "It becomes more interesting for our team to take part in the International Zhautykov Olympiad every year. And it is a great pleasure to win here, because the Olympiad is notable for a high level of competition. This intellectual event is unique as the competition is held among schools. For us it is the only way to prove that our school is strong", head of a team of specialized scientific-training center under the adorned Moscow State Lomonosov University Alexei Ponomarev said to a Kazinform correspondent. As is known, this team won the Grand Prix of the V International Zhautykov Olympiad.

A.Ponomarev noted one more important factor of this Olympiad ? introduction of the third subject ? informatics. ?The degree of complexity of informatics tasks corresponds to the level of international Olympiads?, he underlined. He said that their team would come to Almaty next year. Director of the National Specialized Physico - Mathematical Boarding School Kairosh Makishev, one of the initiators of this international Olympiad, shared his impressions on it. According to him, there are not such large-scale annual Olympiad among specialized physico-mathematical schools experienced in work with talented children. ?All other large Olympiads annually take place in different counties of the world. Winners of individual competitions are awarded at the Olympiad as well?, he noted. K.Makishev reminds that Astana will hold the World Math Olympiad in 2010. ?Kazakhstan is the first country in the CIS to hold such intellectual competition with participation of gifted children from 100 countries of the world. Such Olympiad was held in Moscow in 1992, but the decision on it was made at the time of the former USSR. Heads of international mathematical and physical Olympiads voted unanimously for Kazakhstan?s candidacy last year in Vietnam?, the Director said. He noted that the organizing committee successfully managed with new conditions of the Olympiad. ?For 80 participants on informatics a network of 180 computers, connected to one poweful sever was prepared. The third subject - informatics was introduced to the Regulations on the International Zhautykov Olympiad. By the way, maths, physics and informatics along with the English language are main subjects in our school. Another peculiarity is that the students of Kolmogorovsk school of Moscow won the Grand Prix of the Olympiad for the second time. Almaty team improves its achievements year by year. They won first medal at the last Olympiad, and five medals ? at this one?, the teacher noted. Director of the national scientific-practical center ?Daryn? Dildash Bituova emphasized success of Pavlodar student Yegor Klochkov who had won a gold medal at the math competition. In 2008 he won a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad, Spain, and a silver medal in the Kazakhstan Presidential Olympiad. ?This is also a great success for teachers of the school-lyceum 8 of Pavlodar town. All specialized schools enter into the structure of our center. We create all favorable conditions so that gifted children can achieve full potential?, Mrs. Bituova noted. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Dzhumadildayev noted three particular features of the V Olympiad. A team from Moscow was awarded with a Grand Prix. There were no Kazakhstanis among the winners. According to him, the reason of it is not bad training, but strong competitors. Co-chairman of the jury considers that a challenging task in mathematics, made by member of the jury, representative of Armenia Nairi Sadrikyan, adorned the Olympiad. Only two students solved it: Yegor Klochkov from Pavlodar, who got seven out of seven points, and Artem Toyestov from Belarus ? six points.
