Children should not be left home alone - Minister Zhakupova on death of 4 siblings in Abai region

Minister of Labour and Social Protection Svetlana Zhakupova unveiled some details of the tragic death of four siblings in Ayagoz town on Abai region, Kazinform News Agency reports.

She said the children were home alone at the moment of the tragedy. Their father works in emergency medical service, while their mother was in a food store.

“Children should not be left home alone. We all were the witnesses of similar horrific incidents in Astana and Zhambyl region. The same situation occurs now in Ayagoz. A special commission was set up. From our side, we will provide psychological support [to the parents - edit],” the minister said ahead of the international conference “Labour Market in the Era of Changes” in Astana.

As reported, four siblings died in a private house fire in Ayagoz village, Abai region, on Wednesday, October 25. The rescuers rushed to the smoke-filled house after receiving the call. The firefighters found the bodies of four children. An investigation is launched.

On February 4, 2019, a fire in a private house in Astana killed five children aged between three months and 13 years from a single family. The fire broke out at night, when both parents were at work, emergency authorities said.

On February 19, 2021 another fire tragedy killed five siblings in Zhanatas town of Zhambyl region. The fire broke out in a 3rd-floor apartment and covered the area of 16 square meters. The children aged 6, 5, 4, 2, and 1 left home alone died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
