Chinese ambassador calls for deeper cooperation with Russia

Ambassador Liu Guchang, in a speech to the Moscow Intellectual Business Club, outlined the current financial turmoil's influence on China and the measures the Chinese government has employed to tackle the crisis. China's ability to resist the upheaval has been considerably enhanced because of the great achievements the country has made since it adopted the policy of reform and opening-up 30 years ago, Liu said. The Chinese government, Liu said, is determined to engage in global cooperation and solve the crisis together with the international community, Liu said. The senior diplomat said China-Russia cooperation in combating the financial trouble is of great significance for the two emerging economies, as well as for global stability and development. Nikolai Ryzhkov, honorary chairman of the club, hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries and the smooth development of the Russia-China strategic partnership of cooperation; Kazinform cites Xinhua. He spoke highly of the remarkable achievements of China during the past 30 years and the effective steps it has taken in response to the financial crisis. The Moscow Intellectual Business Club, established in 1993, is made up of 82 members from politics, diplomacy, science, culture, the arts and religion.
