Churkin pockets 89kg weightlifting gold for Kazakhstan at Asian Championships

Kazakh weightlifter Alexey Churkin won a gold medal in the men’s 89 kg finals at the ongoing 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha, Qatar, Kazinform News Agency cites Olympic.kz.

He totaled 360 (163+197) kg in snatch/clean & jerk to take home gold.

Ilia Salehipour from Iran lifted 356 (161+195) kg in total to win silver. Iran’s Abbaspour Alireza took bronze with a total of 355 (159+196) kilograms.

It should be noted that Churkin claimed silver at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships in Bahrain.

It was earlier reported that Kazakhstan’s Denis Poluboyarinov has won the junior boys -96kg category and gave his country gold at the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha.
