CIS counterterrorism cooperation to be discussed at Minsk conference

The conference will focus on the current important issues and cooperation prospects. The participants of the conference are set to exchange the experience in joint actions of the competent CIS bodies in the area of combating international terrorism, illegal turnover of drugs, psychotropic substances and other most dangerous types of the organized crime.
Partaking in the conference will be representatives of competent bodies and other stakeholders, scientific and educational establishments of the CIS, international organizations. The Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee touched upon the joint border operation Zapad 2013 held on 1-25 June under the coordination of the State Border Committee of Belarus with the participation of Russia and Ukraine as well as some of non-CIS countries.
The participants of the meeting analyzed the activity of the CIS council on coordination of the efforts of the border agencies in ensuring security at external borders and measures to enhance the efficiency of taken decisions. The participants discussed the proposals made by the heads of state to the Council regarding the establishment and application of border groupings and other agencies of the CIS countries aimed at regulating crisis situations at the CIS external borders and providing emergency aid to Tajikistan for strengthening border security at the Tajik-Afghan border as well as a number of personnel issues, BelTA reports.
Besides, the participants of the meeting considered priority areas of cooperation between the border agencies in ensuring border security in the CIS in 2014 including the Central-Asian region and the Caspian.
