CIS foreign ministers to meet in Moscow in April

A regular meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council is due to take place in Moscow on 4 April. The draft agenda compiled at the meeting in Minsk will include 17 issues related to the development of all-round cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States. "The CIS Foreign Ministers will consider the progress made in the implementation of the 2013 CIS plan of multilevel ministerial consultations. The ministers are expected to approve the relevant plan for 2014, discuss the issues related to the support and development of national sports. The agenda will also include such issues as the announcement of 2016 as the Year of Foundation in the CIS, and the fight against oncological diseases," the press service noted.
It is expected that the ministers will consider a block of documents in the security sphere, including cooperation in survey and navigation support of the armed forces, collaboration of engineer troops of the CIS Armed Forces in demining activities. The agenda will also include issues on the order of handing over narcotic, psychotropic substances and their precursors, firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices as material criminal evidence to the CIS competent bodies. The CIS Foreign Ministers will also take a look at the document that regulates emergency relief cooperation.
The meeting will also focus on the issues pertaining to the development of two basic organizations in the CIS, i.e. in the area of training, retraining and enhancing qualifications of the managerial personnel for the interior bodies (police) and in the area of world heritage conservation.
Apart from that, on 4 February the CIS Permanent Plenipotentiaries Council considered proposals to the draft agenda of the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting that is due in Kyiv on 30 May. The proposals will be also considered in the CIS member states. The final variant of the draft agenda for the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting will be approved at the next meeting of the CIS Permanent Plenipotentiaries Council on 20 March, BelTA reports.
The CIS Permanent Plenipotentiaries also talked over pension coverage issues and agreed to continue work in the area.
