CIS has to solve a lot of practical problems, V. Putin

MOSCOW. May 16. KAZINFORM Intensive work on formation of the integration economic and political community is of paramount importance within the CIS, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the informal meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.

"We are all united by solid traditions of friendship and good neighborliness of our people. We have preserved economic, interregional, cultural and humanitarian ties. As a matter of fact, we can not effectively function and develop in isolation from each other," President Putin noted. "Right now we are facing similar goals on modernization of economy, counteraction to new threats and challenges and work on formation of a new world order."

According to V.Putin, the CIS occupies a special place among other regional unions as the organization uniting the most representative composition of participants. With this in mind it is important to further joint work on the formation of integration economic and political community within the Commonwealth that will ensure effective development of each CIS member state.

"And to do so the Commonwealth will have to solve a lot of practical problems relating to the creation of single economic and humanitarian space, improvement of the regional security system and boosting the CIS reputation in the international arena," he concluded.

During the meeting the heads of states exchanged views on key directions of the CIS activity, and prospects of further cooperation within the Commonwealth.

Presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine took part in the meeting.
