MINSK. November 17. KAZINFORM The CIS Healthcare Cooperation Council is due to meet in Minsk on 18 November, BelTA learnt from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The council will meet to discuss healthcare cooperation, the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the CIS member states over the last two decades. Due to the social and economic changes that took place in the Commonwealth during this period, the need arose not only to revise the documents adopted in the healthcare sector but also optimize the activity of the council itself. The proposals worked up by the relative taskforces will be considered at the meeting.

The meeting participants will consider CIS draft action plan to counteract cancer diseases. The document defines the major principles of cooperation in preventive care, early detection and treatment of these diseases.

Besides, the members of the council will coordinate documents prepared by the CIS interstate aviation committee and discuss a draft agreement on cooperation in health insurance of migrant workers and their families.

The CIS Healthcare Cooperation Council is one of the oldest cooperation bodies in the Commonwealth. It was founded in June 1992. The council comprises healthcare ministers and chief state medical officers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. Azerbaijan and Moldova are active members of the council.

The council maintains relations with the World Health Organization, United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, the World Health Assembly, UNICEF and others; Kazinform cites BelTA.
