CIS IPA Sec Gen positively assesses election campaign in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. March 11. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Secretary General of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Representative of the CIS IPA Observers' Mission Mikhail Krotov takes positive view on the election campaign in Kazakhstan. He said it at the meeting with Chairman of the Majilis (Lower Chamber) of the Kazakh Parliament Ural Mukhamedzhanov today.

Issues concerning early presidential elections in Kazakhstan were on agenda of the meeting. Speaking on democratic experience of Kazakhstan, the guest positively assessed the beginning of the election campaigns, namely nomination and registration of the candidates. M. Krotov pointed out also the attitude of Kazakhstan to the international observes and cooperation with the Central Election Commission.

12 international observers have been accredited from the CIS IPA and CSTO PA to date. 40 more observers, including the representatives of both chambers of Russia's Federal Assembly are expected to be accredited soon.

As M. Krotov informed, the observers plan to visit the polling stations in Astana, Almaty, Kostanay and neighbor regions as well as several settlements in Zhambyl region. The headquarters of the international observers from the CIS IPA will function in Almaty and Astana cities.

The parties focused also on stable situation in Kazakhstan and the forthcoming parliamentary events scheduled for spring in Saint Petersburg.
