CIS should pursue common policy on international arena

MINSK.  April 18. KAZINFORM It is important that the CIS participating states should coordinate their efforts and promote a common policy on the international arena, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee-CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told reporters.

Sergei Lebedev took part in a session of the CIS Permanent Representatives in Minsk on 17 April, BelTA has learnt.

Sergei Lebedev noted that the session will discuss topical issues related to integration, like the results of the Astana session of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the implementation of the documents signed at the session.

The foreign ministers discussed integration across a variety of fields, like humanitarian cooperation, security, etc. They reviewed the status of efforts to implement the 2011 plan of multilevel ministerial consultations of the CIS and approved the 2012 plan,  BelTA said.

"It is very important for us to coordinate our efforts on the international arena and adopt a common stance on topical issues of the international agenda in the UN and the OSCE. We need to decide how to make it more efficient, how to support each other at international organizations," Sergei Lebedev said.

He reminded that the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers passed five draft documents that will be submitted for consideration of the Council of the CIS Heads of State.

The permanent representatives will hear out a report on the establishment of the CIS reserve fund to mitigate the outcome of natural and man-made disasters, on the preparation of a draft agreement on cooperation in emergency prevention and response.

The reserve fund will provide emergency assistance to any of the CIS member state affected by a natural or man-made disaster if this country is unable to eliminate the damage on its own. The fund will provide physical resources, money, works and services.

"It is not the first time the matter has been brought on the agenda. We hope that the work will be completed soon and the reserve fund will be created," Sergei Lebedev said.
