Coalition forces kill 30 insurgents in E. Afghanistan, 5 soldiers injured
"Calition forces repelled an insurgent attack on a combat outpost in the Bermal district of Paktika province Saturday, killing more than 30 insurgents," the statement added.
The insurgents it added, attacked from all directions with rocket-propelled grenades, small arms and mortar fire at approximately 1:30 a.m. local time Saturday.
A coalition aircraft engaged an insurgent firing position with three precision-guided munitions and initial operational reporting indicates more than 30 insurgents were killed, it added.
However, it confirmed that "five coalition service members were wounded during the fire-fight".
"No coalition service members were killed," it emphasized.
Mostly troops from the United States have been deployed in east Afghanistan to help stabilize security in this part of the conflict-ridden country.
