Committee on Legislation and Court-Legal Reform considered amendments to legislative acts on privacy rights

KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ The Draft Law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Kazakhstan on the issues of protection of citizens' privacy rights" was discussed at the session of the Committee on Legislation and Court-Legal Reform of Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament.

The Draft Law was approved by Mazhilis in the first reading and aimed at adoption of additional measures by the state for protection of constitutional privacy rights of citizens. The Draft Law proposes to strengthen the criminal liability for violation of secrets of private life, private and family secrets as well as secrets of private deposits and savings.

According to Deputy Ramazan Sarpekov the amendments introduced by mazhilismen are of editorial and specifying nature. Deputy Mukhtar Tinikeyev noted that the amendments are not aimed at against freedom of speech as some representatives of mass media believe but must provide the observance of privacy rights of Kazakhstani citizens.

After the discussion the Committee decided to forward the draft law for the consideration of Mazhilis at the second reading with the recommendation for its approval.
