Committees of Majilis ratified Kyoto Protocol

ASTANA. January 25. KAZINFORM /Zhiger Baitelesov/ Committees of the Majilis (Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament) viewed favorably governmental bill ?On ratification of Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change?, Kazinform reports. At the suggestion of the Majilis?s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security, the bill will be considered by the House on coming week at the plenary session.

On May 4, 1995 Kazakhstan ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, signed in Rio-de-Janeiro on June 11, 1992. The Kyoto Protocol to the Convention was adopted by the member countries on December 11, 1997 in Kyoto (Japan) in order to effectively realize the Framework Convention and creation of a mechanism for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Today 181 countries and one regional council (the EU) ratified the Protocol.
