An Expo Line train hit a silver Hyundai at a traffic signal between USC and the Museum of Natural History around 10:50 a.m..

Both the train and the car were both heading east, and the accident occurred as the car made a left turn towards the USC gate but was struck by the train, said Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo. The silver Hyundai Sonata was crushed. Its driver was rescued from the wreckage of the crumpled car and was said to be in critical condition upon arrival at the hospital.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) said the operator of the train was also seriously hurt and taken to a local hospital. Two cars of the train came off the tracks but stood upright, witnesses said. The reason of the collision is under further investigation. The Expo Line service in both directions was cut because of the accident.
