Conference on quality of healthcare kicks off in Amman
Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Minister of Health Firas Hawari inaugurated the seventh Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) conference and exhibition for quality in health care under the title "Quality from a Global Perspective: Future Aspirations", in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, Petra reports.
According to the Council's Executive Director, Salma Jaouni, the conference aims to integrate the principles of quality as well as safety for patients and workers in the health sector and make them a priority and essential for all operations and production in the health field.
The conference includes six main sessions in addition to six workshops, attended by 500 participants, under the supervision of a group of experienced and competent lecturers in the field of improving the quality of health services and activating the principles of patient safety in Jordan, regionally, and internationally.
Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Health Institutions Accreditation Council Ruwaida Maaytah said that the partnership between the Council and the Jordanian health sector is a top priority, explaining the Council’s role in implementing His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision for economic modernization and the Council’s work side by side with the Ministry of Health to achieve the 2025 goals.
She added that "without the support of our customers, employees, Board of Directors and sponsors, we would not have been able to achieve the Board’s goals, which go beyond accreditation and into building quality management systems in all healthcare activities in Jordan. We have invested heavily to support the growth and development of Jordan by focusing on healthcare providers and developing strong platforms for education and training thus supporting continuous professional development."
For his part, the Chairman of the Conference, Yassin Hassan stressed that the importance of the conference lies in its being one of the most prominent annual events concerned with the quality of health services in the region and attracting many participants and speakers from various countries of the world and from all health sectors.
He pointed out that the conference comes as one of the most important outcomes of the HCAC since 2010, as it aims to provide the Jordanian health sector with the most important and latest tools, innovations and knowledge in the fields of quality and safety, enhance the capabilities of institutions and individuals working in them, involve all workers in the health sector and build bridges of cooperation with global experts in the field.
In turn, keynote speaker Peter Lachman, Quality Improvement Fellow and Lead Faculty Quality Improvement at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and former director of International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), explained that the role of doctors in leading the provision of medical services with the required quality and accreditation system, underlining the importance of activating safety principles, especially in emergency situations.
He said that quality is a journey that begins with obtaining accreditation certificates, which are the baseline for any attempt to improve and ensure quality and patient safety. Then comes institutionalization, indicators and their reliability, followed by the third stage, which is people-centered health care that is based on prevention and primary care, he added.
